Tyler stays true to his style and sings “American Woman” by The Guess Who

Tyler sang “American Woman” tonight on American Idol and the judges felt that he was “trying to hard to be a rocker” Simon said he wants it to be more natural and show his talent. Kara agreed and said he has the potential to be a star but he’s trying to hard. Randy said this performance was a bit more ’style’ over ’substance’ and he wants him to change the game up. Ellen loves that he has the stage presence down but it’s almost more imitating then natural and wants him to be more original. Man week one is tough on the contestants!!

    Here’s the thing. Tyler has just arrived and sung for the first time as a LIVE Top 24 contestant. He of course is going to keep the same “gig” that got him here in the first place. The 70’s James Morrison/Guess Who/Mick Jagger thing is totally his gig….his style. the judges loved it and totally went for it. why would he sing his first live show as someone different? If they wanted him to change it up, they should have suggested it before. They encouraged him. Go back and watch. I agree with his comment at the end, that the judges advice is coming too late. with that said, i don’t think his vocals were strong enough to keep him in the competition long term anyway. but he was fun to watch and i thought he’d be around a bit longer. oh well.
